Our Residential Culture & System
In
the bygone era of sweet eighties , the great son of Mother
India Late Sh Rajiv Gandhi Ji visualised the concept of NVS
.Under the aegis of HRD Ministry , Navodaya Vidyalayas were set
up on the pattern of the best residential schools in the
country in 1986 .These institutions are becoming a hub of
school education and gaining from strength to strength with
every passing day and trying to actualise the dreams that were
seen by Late Sh Rajiv Gandhi Ji .
Residential system is the back bone of every boarding school
.There are certain remarkable differences that make them stand
apart from day schools . In our system students stay in the
vidyalaya and proceed to their home only during vacation .
Bifurcation of students in Houses : The students are given
houses at the time of joining the vidyalaya .They become part
and parcel of their houses .They get their identity from their
house, and besides learning they participate in different
activities that are organised in vidyalaya .This is our common
culture in every Navodaya Vidyalaya .
House System in JNV Longowal : Our students have ten houses
.The girls have four houses viz Aravali ,Neelgiri Udaigiri and
Shivalik, while boys have six houses. The boys of 6th
,7th and 8th are accommodated in junior
houses, where as students of 9th ,10th 11th
& 12th have been given Aravali Neelgiri ,Shivalik
and Udaigiri .
Inculcation of values :Through our house system ,we inculcate
the spirit of competition among students .The tender hearts who
join vidyalaya become self -depend .This is the most prominent
value of the residential culture .Students develop a sense of
belongingness to the organisation, the same is exhibited when
they return to vidyalaya on the alumni meet .Unity in
Diversity ,which is another feature of our nation , gets its
display in our residential system .Students learn from one
other by sharing ,discussing and assisting themselves .Here ,
they develop relations for life .Fellow feeling and tolerance
are other qualities that are developed through the House System
.
Role of House Masters /Mistresses : The bonding between
students and HM’s get developed for life time . Students learn
from the experiences of their House Masters /Mistresses, and
they get the affection and grooming from their House Masters
/Mistresses .Thus characters are built .
Other Advantages of House System :Students learn and develop
respect for work by making their houses presentable .They
decorate their houses and try to obtain top positions in the
House Inspection that are held every week .
Conduct of House Meetings :Our Principal conducts regular
meetings with House Prefects so as to have a view of their
problems etc .Similarly ,House Masters have regular meetings
with their students .These help in understanding every student
in a better way .
Developing the sense of responsibility : We make students
responsible when we assign duties such as Room Captain ,Medical
Captain etc .It helps them in taking initiatives in life .
Our every endeavour has one goal that is to realise the
objectives of NVS and also to serve our motherland and also to
create better foundation for the present and futurity of India
.
