Mess System in JNV Longowal , Sangrur
It
was the grand dream of Late S Rajiv Gandhi Ji which established
Navodaya Vidylayas throughout the country .These are
residential schools where students reside in the campus .Every
child is supported by NVS.
The dining system in every vidyalaya is uniform .It comprises
of Catering Assistant , Cooks and Mess helpers .Its working is
monitored by VP/SMT who further gets guidance from the
Principal.
Infrastructure available : The dining hall is spruced up for
the purpose with scenery , relevant quotations ,furniture ,
multimedia system etc .The cook house is well stocked having
most of the requisite things that are needed for cooking food.
Provision of Separate Dining Hall :There has been a provision
of separate dining halls for boys and girls .The students enjoys
meals as per the scheduled time in the presence of their
teachers .Teachers have been deployed on rotational basis for
the smooth functioning in the dining hall.
Imparting Good Table Manners: The House Masters /Mistresses have
their meals in the dining hall where students eat breakfast ,
lunch and dinner . The students learn good table manners from
their teachers.
Framing the Mess Menu: Every month mess meeting is held under
the Chairmanship of Principal .It is attended by students from
every house .The Catering Assistant makes changes in menu as
per the requirement .The Principal also makes her expectations
known.
Disbursing the food :Food items are generally disbursed by
mess staff who sometimes take help from students .It develops
the sense of social service in students.
Duties in the Dining Hall: We have assigned mess duties to
students who ensure that food is dispensed properly .Those who
are sick are given special diets on the recommendation of the
nurse.
The House Masters and teachers encourage student to eat meals
that are prepared for them.
They are instructed to get the utensil from mess and deposit the
same after having meals.
It
is ensured that utensils are cleaned properly .Some students are
put on duty for these on rotational basis.
Praying before meals :The students are taught to say their
prayers before starting their meals .The invocation to God
increases the worth of food that is to be eaten. The same adds
positivity to the atmosphere of dining hall.
Other values : Our students develop the sense of discipline
that is just having the self reliance .They also develop
patience which will help them throughout their lives . Co-operation
, fellow feeling ,giving and getting respect are some of the
values that students learn from the dining hall.
It is rightly said that destiny of a nation is depend on the
manner in which its citizens feed themselves. The place where
food is eaten is no less that a place of worship.
